About Us

Women from across Somerset, and in fact across the country now that the word has spread, will be baking cakes over the next few weeks ready to serve the thousands of festival goers at the UK’s biggest festival.  There will be cakes for vegans, and gluten-free bakes too, showing that not only can the WI produce mighty fine cakes, but they can do it to suit all tastes and requirements too!

The big ‘bake off’ co-incides with the Centenary Year of Women’s Institute in the UK when Somerset Federation WI are taking a step towards the future, while holding on to the best bits of the WI ethos from past!

As well as mouth-watering cakes, ladies will be sharing information about the amazing campaigns the WI have been involved in over the last 100 years, including helping to create the Keep Britain Tidy campaign during the 1960’s, supporting the training and recruitment of more midwives, campaigning to protect honeybees and therefore the core of our environment, and encouraging everyone to join the Organ Donors Register to name but a few!

All this will be done over a fine ‘cuppa’ and a slice of homemade cake, sticking to the ethos of the WI!  Of course, it isn’t all about Jam and Jerusalem, but there is very little wrong with that as a start point for fun, laughter, friendship and some truly awesome influence with the highest authorities in the land.

The WI are grateful to all their generous sponsors, each of whom has helped make their attendance at Glastonbury 2015 possible.

We are are collectively from Kingston St. Mary WI, Puriton & District WI, Daisy Change WI & Cambridge Blue Belles WI.

A HUGE thank you to our kind sponsors who have supported us throughout! Thank you for standing beside us to help celebrate the WI's 100th year in the best way we could think of!
